Aspen Custom Modeler®
Process and equipment model development and simulation environment
Engineers use Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) to quickly create rigorous models of processing equipment and to apply these equipment models to simulate and optimize continuous, batch, and semi-batch processes. It is used across many industries, including chemicals, power, nuclear, food and beverage, metals and minerals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods. Aspen Customer Modeler is a core element of AspenTech’s aspenONE® Process Engineering applications.
Features
- Designed for Process Engineers: Uses a flowsheeting environment based on streams and equipment, and includes built-in understanding of components and process thermodynamics.
- Export Equipment or Process Models: Integrates with Aspen Plus®, Aspen HYSYS®, and Aspen PIMS® for greater export flexibility.
- Common look and feel: Enables users to build flowsheets using the same drag-and-drop workflow as Aspen Plus.
- Best-in-Class Physical Properties Methods and Data: Integrates with Aspen Properties® to provide extensive databases of pure component and phase equilibrium data for chemicals, electrolytes, solids, and polymers.
- Flexible User-Defined Forms: Helps create grids and plots on-the-fly for easy visualization of model results.
- Optimization and Estimation Tools: Enables parameter fitting, data reconciliation, and steady-state and dynamic process optimization.
- Equation-Oriented Architecture: Allows for timely and robust simulation of complex, highly integrated processes.
- Flexible Task Language: Helps define batch recipes and transition schemes, or to simulate process equipment failures or other disturbances.
- Library of Control Models: Simulates process control systems, including links to Aspen DMCplus® control models.
- Online Deployment of Models: Supports an open-loop operator advisory system or, when used with Aspen Online Deployment™ and Aspen Simulation Workbook™, provides a closed-loop real-time optimization/advanced process control application. ACM includes an OLE for Process Control (OPC) interface, providing links to process control and information management systems.
- Workflow Automation: Leverages Aspen Simulation Workbook or Visual Basic® to link to Microsoft Excel® enabling workflow automation and allowing model deployment to casual users.
Options
- Aspen Model Runner™ is an execution environment that can be used to run process models exported from Aspen Custom Modeler. Use Aspen Model Runner to protect intellectual property inside the models and to reduce deployment costs.
- Aspen Polymers extends ACM with a complete set of polymer thermodynamics methods and data, and links to the Polymers reaction kinetics models.
- Aspen Simulation Workbook™ enables easy development of Excel®-based user interfaces to Aspen Custom Modeler or Aspen Model Runner, enabling broad deployment to casual users in the field.
- Aspen Online Deployment® can be used to deploy ACM models on-line for operator advisory or inferential sensor applications.
Benefits
Aspen Custom Modeler is a proven, industry-standard solution used by more than 100 companies. Customers have recognized and reported:
- Up to $15 million per year in incremental profitability from process optimization
- Up to 10% energy savings from dynamic process optimization
- Six months faster time to market for new specialty chemicals products
- Improved post-mortem understanding of industrial reactor failures
- Improved emergency planning from simulation of reactive spill dispersion
